 It’s time for the next Delco Loves Animals Pet Food Pantry! 🐾

Join us on July 26th for July's Pet Food Pantry! Check out the flyer for details on how to enroll in the pantry and how to give (Chewy and Amazon Wish Lists) . We’re grateful for everyone who continues to help make this pet food pantry possible and for those who continue to support this effort.

A special thank you to Prospect United Methodist Church, Wawa and all those who have hosted a Pet Food Pantry in the past for their continued support and for helping keep this resource available to our community. We truly appreciate everyone who helps make each pantry possible.

Your Donations Make a Difference

When most people think of a pet food pantry, they picture families struggling to feed their own pets. While we certainly help families in need, they're actually not the majority of the people who come to our pantry.

What many people don't realize is that much of the food we distribute goes to the dedicated individuals who care for Delaware County's outdoor stray and feral cats. These dedicated people know that these cats didn't choose to be homeless. They were dumped, abandoned, left behind when someone moved, or simply put outside and never allowed back in. The reality is, these cats exist because people failed them—not because they chose this life. The overpopulation of stray pets is not an animal problem. It's a people problem.

The people feeding them are volunteers, rescuers, and trappers who spend countless hours—and often their own money—making sure these cats don't go hungry while working to have them spayed, neutered, and receive the veterinary care they need.

Every bag of food, every can of food, and every donation helps support those efforts. It helps feed cats that have no one else looking out for them, supports the people doing the hard work on the front lines, and helps reduce the stray population through prevention instead of waiting until there's a crisis.

Our pantry days get pretty busy between setting up, helping families, and chatting with everyone who stops by. Before we know it, the event is over and we realize we barely captured any photos or videos to share on Facebook!

If you'd be willing to snap some pictures or take a few short videos at one or more of our pet food pantries, we'd love to hear from you. Your photos help us share our mission, thank our supporters, and show the impact we're making together.

Donations Needed for May's Pet Food Pantry

A huge thanks to everyone supporting the Pet Food Pantry! Because Delaware County lacks a centralized SPCA, many Delaware County residents tirelessly care for stray/feral cats, dumped and neglected pets. Since 2012 when the Delaware County SPCA closed, we have been inundated with stray animals. Many people believe that Providence Animal Center is our SPCA but it is not. They do not take stray cats and dogs, only owner surrenders. 

With animal control fragmented across Delco municipalities, and some municipalities with no animal control, many residents have found themselves in the position of rescuing animals that have been abandoned, dumped and left behind. They trap, foster, try to find homes, have them spayed & neutered (shots, flea and tick treatment), and often times more involved medical treatment. They do this at their own expense. These residents are exhausted in every which way and cannot keep up this pace. This is why your donations are crucial for these community caretakers to feed, shelter, and protect vulnerable animals until an animal welfare center is created.

Purr Loves' Pet Food Pantry for March 2026

Donations are so appreciated, and their impact on our Pantry participants is greater than many people realize. Many of the pet caretakers who participate in the Pet Food Pantry are not only responsible for their own cats, but also care for outdoor strays, maintain cat colonies, participate in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return), and foster animals. And it's not just individuals who come to the pantry. Rescues/shelters do as well. These caretakers often do this using their own funds and personal resources, working tirelessly to make the best out of difficult situations for animals in need.

Your donations help ensure that both pets, community cats and dogs continue to receive supplemental food, shelter, and care from the people who are dedicated to protecting them. Donations will be accepted during pantry hours.

We are also collecting Home Depot gift cards for George, who generously builds outdoor cat shelters for cats in need. George’s primary concern is always the cats and ensuring they have a safe, warm place to rest, especially during harsh weather. He truly has a heart for animals and simply wants to do what he can to make the world a little better for them.

VOLUNTEER – DRIVERS NEEDED

At the moment, we are also looking for volunteers who have a valid driver’s license and are willing to help transport the shelters George builds. Volunteers would pick up the shelters from George and either deliver them directly or arrange a convenient meeting place for drop-off. Even if you are not a Pantry participant, you are still welcome to attend the Pet Food Pantry. In addition to pet food and cat litter, we often receive other donated items such as pet toys, blankets, leashes, collars, and cat shelters made by George if they're available. These items are first come, first serve. Because donations vary, there is always something new each time, though we cannot guarantee there will be something for everyone.

The Glenolden Wawa often donates refreshments as well, making it a welcoming and enjoyable time for everyone who attends. We would love to see you there and truly appreciate the continued support of our community. 🐾❤️

We get this question a lot: “Do you serve people outside of Delaware County?”

We wish we could say yes. The need is real everywhere, and if we had unlimited resources, we’d love to help every pet family who reaches out. But right now, our focus is right here at home — serving the Delco community. As much as we’d like to expand beyond the county lines, it’s just not something we’re able to do at this time.

You may have seen Kim and her crew volunteering at a pet food pantry. Kim's passion for helping animals and those who take care of them, is immeasurable! We have 100% confidence that Kim will make the Pet Food Pantry even better! 

We'll keep you updated with any changes and provide Kim's contact information. PLEASE NOTE: Tax-deductible donations through The Spayed Club will NOT change (just be sure to specify that your donation is for the Pet Food Pantry).

Exciting News from Delco Loves Animals!

First, we’re thrilled to announce that we (Rich and Lisa) are now serving on the Board of Directors for The Spayed Club Veterinary Clinic!

This partnership strengthens our shared mission to help pets and families in need, and it allows us to expand the support and resources we can offer here in Delco.

Second, the Delco Loves Animals Pet Food Pantry is now operating under The Spayed Club’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit status — which means we can now accept tax-deductible donations*. A huge thank you to The Spayed Club for this amazing opportunity and for teaming up with us to make an even bigger impact in Delco!

🐾 Calling All Advocates: Help Us Make the 2nd Annual Delco Loves Animals Meeting a Turning Point

🐾 Delco, it’s time to step up.

This is not just another meeting — it's a CALL TO ACTION. Delco’s animal welfare system is broken, and it’s affecting all of us — whether or not you consider yourself an “animal person.” The state of shelters, strays, and abandoned pets is a community issue that impacts public health, safety, and compassion.

Delco Loves Animals is more than a Pet Food Pantry. We're gearing up for a major event before the end of 2025 — our 2nd Annual DLA Meeting, which will kick off with a powerful press conference.

After a year of tireless work behind the scenes, Delco Loves Animals (DLA) is preparing for our 2nd Annual Meeting and Press Conference — and we need your help, expertise, and connections to make this our biggest, boldest, and most impactful event yet!

If you've ever felt powerless watching suffering animals, or frustrated by the lack of real solutions, now’s your chance to be part of something real. DLA is building momentum — and we want YOU on our team.

Last year’s meeting at The Spayed Club was packed — it was standing room only. That overwhelming response made one thing clear: people care, and we’re not alone in this fight. But this year, we’re aiming higher, and we need a bigger venue, bigger turnout, and an even bigger voice for the animals of Delaware County.

We’re assembling a volunteer campaign team to help make this event a success. Will this be more like a rally? Maybe. Here's how you can get involved:

🏢 Location Scouts - 📍 Help us find a venue

Our first task is urgent: find a larger venue to host the press conference and public meeting. We need a space that can handle a significant crowd — ideally with media access, parking, and livestreaming capabilities. Know a community center, school, church hall, or public space that fits? Let us know!

🎥 Media & Event Support - 📢 Volunteer for campaign & media outreach and assist with livestreams & documentation

We’re looking for volunteers to:

1. Contact local TV news stations and reporters
2. Help coordinate press coverage
3. Handle Facebook and YouTube livestreaming

4. Take photos and videos at the event

🏛️ Outreach to Elected Officials

We want this moment to be seen and heard across Delco — and beyond. We need help reaching out to:

1. Everyone in Delco involved with animal rescue
2. Humane World for Animals
3. Governor Josh Shapiro
4. Local municipalities
5. Delaware County Council
6. State Representatives and Senators
7. Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon 

8. Candidates for local and state office

9. Those involved with animal rescue, TNR, shelters, animal control services, etc. 

We’re inviting them to attend, speak, and listen — because animal welfare IS a community issue that demands political will and public accountability. If the Delaware County Council was able to create a countywide Health Department even though each municipality has its own, then why can't they create a countywide Animal Welfare Department? If anyone knows why they can't, please let us know. So far, we haven't found the answer.

🐶 Why This Matters — To Everyone

This isn't just about animals — it's about the kind of community we choose to be.

Delaware County's animal welfare system is broken; it has stretched to its breaking point: underfunded, overburdened, and failing far too many. As a result, everyday residents have stepped in to fill the gap — often at great personal cost. They're overwhelmed, exhausted, and drained physically, financially, and emotionally. This isn’t sustainable — not for them, not for the animals, and not for our community.

Even if you're not an animal lover, these issues impact public health, community safety, and how your tax dollars are used. More than that, how we treat the most vulnerable — including animals — reflects who we are. Turning a blind eye to suffering isn't just a policy failure; it's a moral one.

We can do better — and we must. It's time to demand real, systemic change. That starts by showing up, speaking out, and standing together for a more compassionate, responsible future.

Feeding Pets, Fueling Hope: A Look Back at Sunday’s Pet Food Pantry

 

🐾 Full Bellies, Full Hearts

This past Sunday, our community came together once again to make a real difference — not just for pets, but for the people who love and care for them.

At our Pet Food Pantry event, hosted generously by Collingdale Councilman and Firefighter Steve Zane and the Collingdale Firehouse, we were able to provide essential supplies to local families in need. Thank you to the Glenolden Wawa for providing refreshments! And Thanks to the kindness and support of The Spayed Club*, Purr Love*(collaborators and donors), our faithful donors and volunteers, countless pets will have a few full bowls and full bellies.

🥫 What We Provided:

• Dog and cat food

• Treats

• Cat litter

• Basic pet care supplies

For many families, these resources are more than just helpful — they’re a lifeline that allows them to keep their pets through hard times.

We're collecting donations of cat and dog food, dry and canned (grain-free for cats) and unscented cat litter. We help supplement colony and stray cat caretakers and rescuers so we welcome large bags of cat food. 

We're also looking for hosts and volunteers to partner with us at future events. Whether you can provide a space, help collect donations, assist with setup, or simply want to be part of this important mission, we’d love to have you on board.
