 It’s time for the next Delco Loves Animals Pet Food Pantry! 🐾

Join us on July 26th for July's Pet Food Pantry! Check out the flyer for details on how to enroll in the pantry and how to give (Chewy and Amazon Wish Lists) . We’re grateful for everyone who continues to help make this pet food pantry possible and for those who continue to support this effort.

A special thank you to Prospect United Methodist Church, Wawa and all those who have hosted a Pet Food Pantry in the past for their continued support and for helping keep this resource available to our community. We truly appreciate everyone who helps make each pantry possible.

Your Donations Make a Difference

When most people think of a pet food pantry, they picture families struggling to feed their own pets. While we certainly help families in need, they're actually not the majority of the people who come to our pantry.

What many people don't realize is that much of the food we distribute goes to the dedicated individuals who care for Delaware County's outdoor stray and feral cats. These dedicated people know that these cats didn't choose to be homeless. They were dumped, abandoned, left behind when someone moved, or simply put outside and never allowed back in. The reality is, these cats exist because people failed them—not because they chose this life. The overpopulation of stray pets is not an animal problem. It's a people problem.

The people feeding them are volunteers, rescuers, and trappers who spend countless hours—and often their own money—making sure these cats don't go hungry while working to have them spayed, neutered, and receive the veterinary care they need.

Every bag of food, every can of food, and every donation helps support those efforts. It helps feed cats that have no one else looking out for them, supports the people doing the hard work on the front lines, and helps reduce the stray population through prevention instead of waiting until there's a crisis.

Our pantry’s mission is simple: to identify un-spayed and unneutered cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies, and help their owners or caretakers access low- or no-cost spay/neuter services when needed. Your generosity is what keeps this effort moving forward—thank you for being part of the solution.

Feeding Pets, Fueling Hope: A Look Back at Sunday’s Pet Food Pantry

 

🐾 Full Bellies, Full Hearts

This past Sunday, our community came together once again to make a real difference — not just for pets, but for the people who love and care for them.

At our Pet Food Pantry event, hosted generously by Collingdale Councilman and Firefighter Steve Zane and the Collingdale Firehouse, we were able to provide essential supplies to local families in need. Thank you to the Glenolden Wawa for providing refreshments! And Thanks to the kindness and support of The Spayed Club*, Purr Love*(collaborators and donors), our faithful donors and volunteers, countless pets will have a few full bowls and full bellies.

🥫 What We Provided:

• Dog and cat food

• Treats

• Cat litter

• Basic pet care supplies

For many families, these resources are more than just helpful — they’re a lifeline that allows them to keep their pets through hard times.

🙌 A Huge Thank You To:

• Steve Zane and the Collingdale Firehouse for hosting and supporting the event with such generosity and heart.

We’re excited to announce that our next Pet Food Pantry will be held on Sunday, October 26 at The Real Church in Brookhaven! 🐾 We'll also have a table at Brookhaven's Family Day (see below for details).

📌 Flyers will be posted soon — be sure to mark your calendars and help us spread the word! Also, be sure to check our Facebook page and our blog regularly for updates and additional information.

We're collecting donations of cat and dog food, dry and canned (grain-free for cats) and unscented cat litter. We help supplement colony and stray cat caretakers and rescuers so we welcome large bags of cat food. 

We're also looking for hosts and volunteers to partner with us at future events. Whether you can provide a space, help collect donations, assist with setup, or simply want to be part of this important mission, we’d love to have you on board.

The Pet Food Pantry keeps growing and changing—because that’s how we learn what works best. These updates will help us serve more pets and caretakers more smoothly.

✨ What’s New?

No More Public Announcements

We will no longer post the date and location of the Pet Food Pantry publicly. Instead, only approved participants will be contacted directly by email.

When you receive our email, you’ll need to reply with:

• Number of pets
• Type of pets (dog, cat, etc.)
• Names of pets
• Whether they are indoor, strays, or feral cats (include colony location)
• If shelters are needed for stray/feral cats
• If you notice new cats/kittens needing spay/neuter (TNR) so we can help

 We will still post:

• How to enroll
• Enrollment deadlines
• Requests for donations (until further notice)

Pop-Up Pantries (Huckster Style)

Starting August 2025, we’re testing Pop-Up Pantries! These will be more flexible, easier to manage, and may even allow us to host them more than once a month. As we move toward becoming a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we’ll also be able to receive larger donations from stores—reducing the need to ask Delco residents for supplies. That’s the goal!

• Email spay/neuter records to delcolovesanimals@gmail.com right after completing the form

• If records arrive after the 15th, you may need to wait until the next month to participate

• Full instructions are on the form

AUGUST PET PANTRY NEEDS

 

🐾 This Month’s Pet Pantry Needs - Join Us in Helping Delco’s Pets

Your kindness keeps tails wagging, purrs rumbling, and bellies full. As we gear up for another month of serving pets in need, here’s how you can help:

🛒 Donate Supplies

This month, our most-needed items are:

1. Dry dog food

2. Cat food (preferably grain-free)

3. Dog treats (NO rawhide, please)

4. Cat litter

One of our goals at DLA is to education pet owners about "species appropriate diets" for pets. Check out this TED Talk with holistic veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker. Also watch the documentary film, Pet Fooled. 

We’re still in need of local businesses and churches who are willing to host a collection/donation bin — it’s an easy, high-impact way to support pets in need right here in our community. Eventually we hope that donations can be dropped off at any of our Pet Food Pantry collection bins hosted by local businesses and churches. We can also arrange a meet-up or pickup.

📍 Parking Lot Needed

We’re trying something new for our pantry distribution this month — setting up “huckster-style” right from our truck. For that, we need a small, safe, and accessible parking lot. It doesn’t have to be large — just a welcoming spot we can use for the day.

We’re Trying Something NEW This Month

We’re gearing up for a different kind of Pet Food Pantry on August 31st — for pets and the people who love them — but we can’t make it happen without the help of our amazing community.

🚚 WHAT’S NEW?

This month, we’re switching things up!
Instead of hosting our usual indoor pantry, we’ll be setting up in a local parking lot — huckster style! 🛻🐾 Think of it as a drive-up, open-air pantry right from our truck.

We’re testing this “pantry-style” distribution to see if it’s a good fit for our community. Same mission, fresh approach!

📍 WE NEED A PARKING LOT PARTNER

We’re looking for a kind neighbor or business willing to let us use their parking lot for this event.
It doesn’t have to be big — just safe, accessible, and local. If you can help (or know someone who can), please reach out!

✅ WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Our pantry is open to approved DLA Pet Food Pantry participants.
If you’ve been approved, you can join any pantry event until your Pet Food Pantry card expires (cards will be handed out at this month's pantry). Approval lasts six months from your approval date and means you have:

1. Completed our Enrollment Form

2. Submitted spay/neuter records for all your pets

3. Received an approval confirmation email

If you’ve never completed our enrollment process, or if you’ve sent in your documents but haven’t received an approval email, please contact us.
All enrollment forms and spay/neuter records must be submitted by August 15 (or the 15th of any month) to participate in that month’s pantry and beyond.

1. Number of cats — please note how many are indoor and outdoor

2. Number of dogs

3. Type of food (canned or dry)

4. Preferred brand/type of food (we can't guarantee it, but if possible, we'll do our best to accommodate)
